PRO’s Weekly Report – 4th November 2013

SEMI – FINALS  & FINAL OF PLAYER OF THE YEAR & COMMITTEES PRIZE.

On Sunday last the 3rd the above competitions were held in near perfect weather conditions. We were so lucky with the day as they had been postponed twice previously.  The semi – finalists in the Gents were Michael Buckley – v – John Browne and  Liam Buckley – v – Alan Hanlon. Michael & John were first on the tee box at 10 am. After the first 18 holes John was 5 up. John went on to win relatively easy in the second round. Next on tee box were Alan Hanlon – v – Liam Buckley. This was a ding dong battle with the lead being exchanged but Alan went on to win out  3 & 2.

The semi finalists in the Committees Prize were Martin Carter – v – Stuart Tarleton  and Steven Ruane – v – Ml. Scally. Both matches were ding dong affairs and Martin’s went to the 36th hole when Stuart had a great chip from about 20 yds  to leave him on for a safe three. Martin was on the green but unfortunately missed his putt to leave Stuart winning by 1 hole. In the second semi it went to a 2nd tie hole between Steven Ruane and Michael Scally.  Steven was giving 7 shots to Michael in each round which is a tall ask of anyone  and  as it was sudden death at this stage Michael won the 2nd  tie hole by virtue of the fact that he was getting a shot from his opponent.  That left Michael Scally and Stuart Tarleton in the final.   Stuart won out on the 36th hole by the narrowest of margins.

The final of the Gents Player of the Year was a great game between two of our best players Alan Hanlon and John Browne. Alan hit a purple patch at one point of the match and rattled in 2 holes in one and was 8 under for a spell of 8 holes but John never gave up and reeled him back to 2. Alan  eventually won the game on the 17th. It was a very sporting game by both men.

In the Ladies Final we had Anne Kelly – v – Ena Clinton.   Anne was conceeding 4 shots in each round which again is a tall ask. Ena started off well birding the first 2 holes. She went 5 ahead at one point but Anne reigned her in to 1 but Ena got a second wind and ran out relatively easy winner by 5 & 4. This is Ena’s first win of this competition.

The Prizes were presented by our Chairman  Michael Buckley. Thanks to Colm & Sean who had the course in great condition for the time of the year. Thanks to Martin Carter, Competition Secretary for all his hard work over the year.
