PRO’s Weekly Report – 2nd September 2013
GAVIGAN CUP.
The final of the above matchplay competition took place on Wednesday evening last the 28th August. The 2 gentleman who made it to the final were Alan Hanlon and Liam Buckley. Both men are very much in form at present so the scene was set for an excellent game and we were not disappointed. After the first 18 holes Alan lead by 3 shots but this all changed in the next round as Liam got into top gear and pulled back the deficit and went a couple ahead. Liam had two bogies on 13th & 14th to let Alan back in. They were all square at this point . Alan won the 16th & 17th to win the Gavigan Cup for the 4th time a fete that has not been done by any player heretofore. Hard luck to Liam who played great stuff but Alan is on a roll as this is his 4th major championship win in the club (i.e.) McManus Cup, Greville Cup, Captains prize and now Gavigan Cup as well as a couple of Scratch Cups and other prizes.
Thanks to all who turned up on the evening to lend their support. Thanks to Colm & Sean who as usual had the course in great condition. Thanks to our competition secretary, Martin Carter who got all the competitions played on schedule which is no mean fete as the calendar is so full.
ALL IRELAND INTER -COUNTIES.
Next weekend sees the culmination of the Pitch & Putt Calendar with the above competitions being held in Hillview, Clonmel this year. The Westmeath Gents team comprises no less than 5 of our club members (i.e.) Alan Hanlon, John Browne, Michael & Liam Buckley and Rene Bloem and of course Team Manager is Martin Carter also a Collinstown man. The other member is Pat Malone from the Custume Club and the 2 subs are Ronan Whelan & Niall Cuffe from the Kilbeggan club. We wish them all the very best of luck in Tipperary. Unfortunately for the 2nd year in succession we have no Ladies team which is disappointing.
PLAYER OF THE YEAR & COMMITTEES PRIZE.
The Semi – finals and finals of the above club competitions will take place on Saturday 14th Sept at 10 am. I will have more details next week with regard to the personnel involved in same.
