PRO’s Weekly Report – 22nd July 2013

NATIONAL STROKEPLAY CHAMPIONSHIPS. (LADIES).

On Saturday and Sunday last the 20th & 21st, the above championships were held in Navan. A number of our ladies participated in same. In the Junior section Mary Carroll was our entrant. Intermediate players were Moira Nugent & Ena Clinton and in the Senior grade Liz Bloem and Anne Kelly were our flag bearers. While all the ladies acquitted themselves very well unfortunately none won any silverware. The  competition on Saturday was played in heatwave conditions while the ladies on Sunday fared much better as the day was much cooler.  The course in Navan was absolutely beautiful on both days and is a credit to the club.

GENTS NATIONAL STROKEPLAY CHAMPIONSHIPS.

The above competition takes place on Sat & Sun next the 27th & 28th July in Rocklodge, Cork. A number of our men are playing in same. In the Senior section we have John Browne, Michael & Liam Buckley and Rene Bloem. In the Intermediate section Martin Carter is our flagbearer and in the Junior section Gary Middleton  is our sole participant.    We wish them all the best of luck.

INTER COUNTY TEAMS.

All the trials are over and the Gents Team has been announced.   Collinstown have 5 members on this team which is unprecedented, I think. They are John Browne, Michael & Liam Buckley, Alan Hanlon and Rene Bloem. The other member of the team is Pat Malone from  the Custume club. We wish them all the best in both the Leinsters and All Ireland Championships coming up in August and September.

Unfortunately for the second year in succession we have failed to field a Ladies team.   There is great disappointment at this .

PLAYER OF THE YEAR.

This competition continues on Weds. next the 24th. July.   This is week 9 and with only 1 week left competition is hotting up. There are great crowds each week with 24 taking part on Weds evening last. The fine evenings probably has something to do with  same.

SYMPATHY.

We send our deepest sympathy to the family of Mary Boyle who passed away at the weekend.   She could be seen walking regularly around the Hurling field with her dog. She will be greatly missed. May she rest in peace.

Ena Clinton, PRO.
