PRO’s Weekly Report – 1st April 2013

WINTER LEAGUES (AKA JOE BRAY LEAGUES).

At last the finals of the above competition took place on Monday evening last the 1st April in biting cold easterly wind.   Congratulations to the three teams who played some great pitch & putt despite the inclement conditions.

The winners on a wonderful score of 28 were John Browne’s team of Leo Ryan & Gary Middleton. R/Up on a score of 23 were Rene Bloem, Ml. Heffernan & Martin Carroll and in 3rd spot were Tom Archbold, Mark Foran and John Flanagan on a score of 18. This competition  goes from strength to strength each year and this year was no exception as we had 27 people involved in same from the outset which was wonderful and it is a testimony to the man in whose honour it is.   Thanks to Kathleen Bray who sponsored the winners prizes  which is very generous of her and for the lovely spread which she laid out for everyone after the event and which was much appreciated by all and sundry. Thanks to John Browne who sponsored the prizes for the runners up and the club put up the prizes for the third spot. John Browne was magnanimous in his praise of this competition and the esteem in  which the late Joe Bray was held in  the club and for the amount of work  which he did for same. He  also had great praise for his two team mates Leo Ryan and Gary Middleton.   The latter has only joined our club this year and its great to see him getting off to such a good start.

The course was in great condition despite the prolonged, harsh weather conditions of late. Thanks to the workmen who have done trojan work on the course with drainage etc. Thanks to Comp. Secretary, Martin Carter who has had an unenviable job trying to facilitate everyone with the running of this competition and also with  cancellations due to weather conditions.
