PRO’s Weekly Report – 15th July 2013

MICHAEL FLYNN CLARET JUG FINAL.

The above final took place on Tuesday evening last the 9th in temperatures of 30 degrees. Despite the fact that John was giving Steven 4 shots in each round it was A/S after the first 18 holes. The lead see-sawed over the next number of holes and John went on to clinch victory at the  35th hole. It was a wonderful final with some great pitch and putt served up by both men. There was a large gallery present which was great to see and all enjoyed the nail biting final. This competition was first played in 2004 and was the brainchild of John Browne so it was very fitting that he should win it at last. The prizes were sponsored and presented by Michael Flynn to John Browne – Winner, Steven Ruane – R/Up and semi finalists John Flanagan and Clive Byrne.

John was magnanimous in his prase of Michael Flynn  who is President of the club this year and is also a great clubman and has sponsored this great competition since its inception in 2004. Thanks to  Competition Secretary Martin Carter for all his hard work  in getting the competition run  to schedule as the calendar this year is chock a block with fixtures. The course was in good condition also so thanks to the workmen who keep it up to standard particularly in this very hot weather. Thanks to Ena who was on hand with the very welcome cuppa afterwards
