PRO’s Weekly Report – 10th March 2014

JOE BRAY MEMORIAL LEAGUES.

On Saturday last the 8th, the final of the above competition was held. Conditions were tricky because of a howling south west wind. The 3 teams who made it to the final were Teams B – Martin Carter, Watty Kenny & Ml. Scally,  Team G of John Browne, Des. Carter & Kevin  Flanagan and  last but not least Team D which consisted of Tom Archbold, Paddy Gorman and Maurice Middleton.

This competition  comprised of 36 holes scramble the first 18 holes gross scores + 18 holes nett scores combined. After the first 18 holes the teams were quite close with only  one shot dividing Teams B and G and a little way behind Team D.   It was all to play for in the 2nd round. Team G were going great guns with 13 birdies out of the first 15 holes but then the birdies dried. Team B went on to win by 2 shots thanks to a magnificent birdie on the 18th green by Ml. Scally which sealed their victory. So the winners were Team B with a great score of + 24, R/Up. Team G with a score of + 22  and in 3rd spot were Team D.

This was a great competition with 8 teams  starting out at the beginning and after three qualifying rounds the three teams above were in the final.

The course was in great condition for the time of year thanks to the hard work of our groundsmen Sean & Colm and anyone else who gives a hand. Thanks to Kathleen Bray who sponsored the prizes for the winning team and to John Browne who sponsored the prizes for the r/up and the club sponsors prizes for the team in 3rd position. Thanks to the ladies who had a lovely spread prepared  for the Presentation.  Thanks to Martin Carter, Competition Sec who got all the games played on time despite having to cancel games because of weather conditions.

The competition is in   memory of the late Joe Bray who was the backbone of the Collinstown Pitch & Putt Club for a number  of years and it is only fitting that such a competition has been set up in his honour.

SEAN COYNE MEMORIAL.

The above competition will take place in Collinstown on Saturday 22nd March (1st leg) and in Gaeil Colmcille, Kells on the following Sat 29th March (2nd leg).   This competition which is in memory of another great Collinstown & Gaeil Colmcille man who passed away  too soon  is a fundraiser for the Diabetes Association of Ireland, a charity which was dear to the late Sean’s heart.  Starting time is 12 noon on both days  and we hope as many of our members as possible will support same.

BEST WISHES.

We extend the good wishes of the club to  Raymond Kenny  & his fiancee Fran who are getting married on Saturday next and wish them a long and happy life together.

We also send congratulations to Tommy Archbold on becoming a grandfather again recently.   Enjoy.
