PRO’s Weekly Report – 10th June 2013

 

CLUB   STROKEPLAY CHAMPIONSHIPS.

Last weekend was a very busy one in our club as on Saturday last the 8th we held the above competition which is graded.   We had 27 players taking part in same. The weather conditions couldn’t have been better with temperatures in the mid twenties. Play commenced at 10 am with everyone playing 36 holes. There was a break for refreshments and then the final round took place at 1.30 pm. There were some great scores in all the grades and the following are the winners:

Senior Gents:   Michael Buckley.

Inter Gents:   Stephen Ruane (following a 3 hole play-off with Martin Carter).

Junior  Gents:   Gary Middleton.

Ladies:   Anne Kelly.

SCRATCH   CUP.

It was an early start on Sunday morning with  Larry McGinn, John McDonald, John Browne and Martin Carter on the tee box shortly after 8 am. There was a steady 2 ball all morning until last card at 2 pm. The final round got underway about 5. 30 with 12 best scores and ties. We had the Buckley Brothers, Larry McGinn, John Browne and Rene Bloem  qualifying for this round. The following is a full list of the winners:

WINNER:   Larry Maher (Jnr).  Erry.

R/Up:   Pat Malone (Custume).

Third:   Liam Buckley (Collinstown).

Last 18 gross:   Derek Courtney (St. Briget’s) who was also defending champion.

Junior winner:   Sean Langdon (Custume).

Inter winner:   Brendan McMahon (Kilbeggan).

Ladies winner:   Margaret Hogan  (Tullamore)

Ladies   R/Up:   Liz  Bloem   (Collinstown).

We had a reasonable turnout at same considering  all the counter attractions and competitions that were on in the region.

Thanks to all who helped out on the day and who got the course ready for the busy weekend of competitions. Thanks to Martin and John who did most of the desk work with help from  others. Thanks to the ladies who looked after the kitchen on both days also. Thanks to Watty “Crusher” Kenny  who helped out in the kitchen too. Thanks to Mary who did up some tubs of flowers.  A special word of thanks to Michelle who made love cheesecakes,  flans etc. They were very much appreciated. The course was in great condition so a big thanks is in order to our two Groundsmen Colm and Sean for all their work.

PLAYER OF THE YEAR.

This competition continues on Weds. next the 12th. This will be week  4  and play will commence at 6. 30 pm.   There are good numbers taking part in same with 25 playing last week.

LEINSTER STROKEPLAY.

The qualifiers for the above competition takes place on Sun next the 16th in Lough Owel.

MICHAEL FLYNN CLARET JUG.

The group stage of the above competition takes place on Sat 22nd June  getting under way at 10 am.

CLUB DOUBLES.

All 2nd round matches in above competition MUST be played on or before Monday 17th June.   No exceptions will be made.

GAVIGAN CUP.

All 1st round matches in the above competition MUST be played on or before Fri  21st June.   Please ensure that your match is played on time to allow for the smooth running of the competition.
