The final of the 2010 Paddy Bardon shield was expected to be a close affair with a high standard of Pitch and Putt - it did not disappoint!
The final opened with the first round scramble. Paul Byrne's team had 2/3 of a shot advantage in the handicap and shot an exellent 43 gross. Usually this would have be adequate to win the point for that match but not in this occasion. Peter Dolan and his team-mates, Liam Hetherton and Pat Smith shot an incredible 16 under par 38 to take the opening point of the final.
This meant that the pressure was building on Anne Kelly. She now needed to get something out her match with Pat Smith in the singles to keep the game alive for her team. Anne was gving 4 shots to Pat and unfortunately it was a mountain too high to climb. Some excellent solid play from Pat meant that Anne didn't really get a foot-hold in the match and eventually Pat won by a 6&5 margin.
Although the doubles match was a tight enough affair at that stage, once Pat had won the singles, the doubles result was irrelevent and for this reason Peter Dolan and Liam Hetherton conceded the match, to leave Peter's team winning by a 2-1 scoreline.
