The Donie Weldon Club Doubles Matchplay final took place on Tuesday evening last 20^th July. Last years winner Martin Carter was paired up with George Carolan this year and their opponents were Anne Kelly and Martin Carroll. George and Martin were straight out of the blocks birdying 3 of the first 4 holes to take an early 3 hole lead. But Anne and Martin fought back and made plenty of birdies themselves in the opening round. A hole-in-one from Martin Carter on the 18^th though meant that himself and George were 4 up at the half-way point. A cracking putt then on the first hole meant that they stretched the lead to 5 for the first time.

With 9 holes to go they still held a 4 hole lead and the holes were running out for Anne and Martin. And they arrived at the 15^th tee-box with the 4 hole lead still intact. A superb pitch by Anne on 15 though was followed by an excellent birdie putt from Martin and the lead was back to 3. That was as far as it went though as George sank an eight footer for birdie on 16 to close the match out 4&2.

George thanked Anne and Martin for a very sporting game in his speech. He also thanked sponsor Donie Weldon for attending and sponsoring the competition. And finally he thanked his playing partner Martin Carter.
